On Tuesday 17th April 2018, a group of three firemen from the local Fire Brigade of Kissamos visited our school for a presentation of their work with an emphasis on the prevention of forest fires. In the theoretical part, they mentioned the possible causes of  forest fires and how to intervene in such situations. It is important to mention that 80% of the fires are caused by human negligence. They also told us about fire extinguishing methods and materials and how useful water is because it is cheap and plentiful. Since most of us live in villages and there are many trees around, they gave us instructions in the unfortunate case of a fire around our house.

In the practical part, they opened their fire truck and we had the very special opportunity to see what equipment is inside those vehicles. Finally, they showed us how to use the hoses and throw water to put out a fire.
