On March 17th, Saturday, we went to the east of Antalya. The participants first visited Aspendos ancient theater which was built by the Romans at the end of the 2nd century. When we went to Manavgat, we visited the greenhouses where the vegetables were grown up. The students had the chance of observing how the vegetables were produced in greenhouses in different seasons. Then, since the town was also famous for oil production, an olive oil factory was visited, and information was presented by the technicians involved in olive oil production. Later, a mosque was visited, and Islamic religious culture was introduced. We took a break in Manavgat for lunch. After the lunch, we visited the famous Manavgat waterfall where the amount of water does not change during the summer and winter months and the ancient city of Side, which was the harbor city. Side, which was the most important port city of Pamphylia in antiquity, became a settlement center in the BC VII century. It was governed by the Lydian kingdom, became one of the coin printing centers during the Alexander period, then became Roman city after Hellenistic period. Most recently, the Cretan immigrants who came with the exchange built the Selimiye village on these ruins. Nowadays, it is among the most famous tourist attractions in Antalya.
