COOKING TRADITIONAL FOODS WITH CRETAN HERBS AND SPICES

Within the project Erasmus “Mission Possible Health", students from Kolymvari Junior High School visited some trainee cooks in OAED, i.e. the Manpower Employment Organiztion, n the village of Tavronitis, to learn about the various uses of spices and herbs in cookery. They first made a detailed presentation of herbs that they would use to make traditional kalitsounia (pies with Cretan herbs). Then the students themselves tried to roll out the pastry and then fill in the traditional kalitsounia with the mixture from the herbs, an experience that was a new and unique experience for some of them.

After that they showed the students how they flavored a piece of meat using herbs and spices again. The children were very pleased with this experience, and so were the teachers and we all thank them for their hospitality. We hope that they were equally pleased and that there will be similar collaboration in the future.
