Our school, Yusuf Ziya Öner Scientific High School, organized an excursion to “Research and Development” department of Akdeniz Universty’s Faculty of Agriculture, as part of the project “Erasmus+ EU Mission Possible Health”. 45 students and 2 teachers participated in the activity. An agricultural engineer of the university explained us about the faculty’s various agricultural activities.

As our excursion was in winter season, we were informed about the  methods and environment of greenhouse agriculture rather than open air farming. We observed R&G activities on tomato and pepper growth. We were reinvited in may to learn about the university’s work on medicinal and aromatic plants and spices.

Our students were very interested and impressed by the works of the university. It was their first time to be in a greenhouse. They were very happy to see on-site the scientific work done on the growth of plants that they see often in their daily life. Thanks to this on-site learning activity, the students developped a stronger interest in their own natural environment, and they started to think about the Faculty of Agriculture as a future carrier possibility.
